The VENDLET Standard is the newest addition to our collection of powered turning aids. Besides being made from sustainable materials, the system is also designed to ensure high infection control and is washable by automated bed tunnel washers.
To make the system even more practical, the new model is washable in bed tunnel washers. This makes it easier to use the system for multiple clients, as cleaning takes less time to complete than with our previous models. This, along with the other functions of a VENDLET-system, creates a better working environment where there is room to focus on the value in caring.
Improved Work Health and Safety
Patient handling is one of the biggest contributors to muscular-skeletal disorders and work injuries among caregivers. Therefore, we have to adjust the way we handle patients and clients when positioning them. With the VENDLET-system, it is possible to reduce sick leave and the number of work injuries that are due to straining when moving and handling clients. The powered patient turning aid reduces or outright eliminates the pushing and pulling, that often occurs when transferring clients. The transfer aid does the heavy lifting for you!
Gentle repositioning and transfer
Most clients who need assistance during repositioning can benefit from using the VENDLET Standard, as it offers a calmer and smoother experience. The transferring becomes soothing, as the sheet 'hugs' the client and the caregivers only have to focus on guiding the arms and legs to the right places.
The VENDLET is especially beneficial for clients who are at risk of developing pressure ulcers or other forms of tissue damage as its fluid motion reduces the possibility of shear and friction. The smooth and fluid motion in the transfer is also beneficial to clients who can be easily agitated or anxious. To further improve the care of anxious clients, the VENDLET Standard is also built with a speed adjustment system. This means that the speed of the bars can be reduced to either 75 or 50%. The speed adjustment ensures that both the client and the caregiver feel comfortable operating the VENDLET system.
With the VENDLET Standard, it is possible to:
- Turn a person from supine to lateral position and back
- Transfer a client sideways in bed
- Mobilize the client from the bedside and into the bed
- Move the client higher up in the bed
- Simplify other processes such as applying a sling and positioning
- Turn a patient to/from prone position
High infection control
When we developed the VENDLET Standard, our focus was to optimise the mounting and the cleaning of the powered patient turning aid. All of the electrical components are placed inside the system's corner posts, which means they can't be damaged during machine washing. The VENDLET Standard can also be machine washed whilst remaining mounted to the bed. As the assistive aid is machine washable, it ensures optimal infection control when the aid is used at hospitals, nursing homes and home care situations.
The sheets are attached with a Quick-Tag system, where the edge of the sheet is pressed into a groove on the bar. This makes the sheets more durable as well as increases the infection control compared to sheets with a velcro attachment.
Easy mounting
This new way of constructing the VENDLET system makes it easier to mount the VENDLET on the bed. This is mainly because the actuators do not have to be mounted additionally under the bed, as is required when mounting the older models. This makes the mounting faster and more compatible with a bigger variety of hospital and care beds. It also means that the bed can be lowered completely down the floor without the actuators hitting the wheels or the breaks of the bed.
The powered turning aid's telescopic sides make it possible to adjust the length of the VENDLET so it can be mounted on a larger variety of beds. Even the adjustments of the system's height are made easier with a hoisting function. This function works by pushing down a button situated on the inner side of the corner post, enabling the side to easily glide up and down. On the corner post, the requirements of the side rail's position on the bed are stated, making it easy to always be sure that the VENDLET has been mounted correctly. It is important to note, as the requirements for the side rail's position is different with the VENDLET Standard compared to the older models. The VENDLET Standard has to be mounted 2.5 cm below the surface of the mattress, so it allows the client to easily get in and out of the bed.
Sustainably made
The VENDLET Standard is made of sustainable aluminium, which is a metal that is 100% reusable. During the production of aluminium, there is a predominantly large amount of remelted aluminium, that is recommenced to be remelted when the VENDLET system is being discarded.
The cotton sheets are both shorter and thinner, which not only makes them softer but also ensures that the amount of cotton used in the production is reduced immensely.
The plastic components are made of an easily reusable plastic called polypropylene. It is easy to repurpose and has a low environmental impact. Furthermore, we package our powered turning aids in cardboard made of 85% recycled fibre. That is why the VENDLET Standard is our most sustainable and environmentally friendly powered turning device.
Build-in side rail
When the bars of the VENDLET Standard are elevated, they work as a side rail. When the bars are lowered, the bars are situated 2.5 cm below the surface of the mattress, which ensures that it is easy to move in and out of the bed.
If an emergency occurs, e.g. a power outage or cardiac arrest, the side rails can be quickly lowered by the use of the emergency release nuts positioned on all four of the corner posts.
The side rail function is tested and approved by an independent testing institution.
